New Orleans, LA - March 15, 2005 — Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the world leader in advanced memory technology, at the CTIA Wireless 2005 Convention & Exposition, today announced that it has reached agreement with PalmSource to work together to port Samsung NAND Flash software into the Palm OS® Cobalt and future releases of the Palm operating system.

The planned solutions are intended to enable ultra-fast storage of huge multimedia files while reducing the processing time of next-generation Palm Powered™ phones. Samsung is a partner in the Palm OS Ready (POSR) program and is applying its expertise in memory technology to lower development costs and shorten time-to-market for Palm Powered phones and other wireless devices.

Samsung's software solutions have been integrated into other leading standard OS's and proven for their superior performance and reliability in the marketplace.

"As leaders in our respective markets, PalmSource and Samsung Semiconductor plan to establish the most developer-friendly framework for application design, portability and enhancement - one that will set the pace for the enrichment of the mobile user experience of Palm Powered phones," said Charlie Tritschler, vice president of product marketing for PalmSource.

"The migration from bandwidth-limited NOR Flash memory to much more robust, multimedia-friendly NAND Flash is moving at a torrid pace as handset manufacturers and wireless carriers are scrambling to address the soaring demand for increased functionality and media-rich services in their products," said Ivan Greenberg, Director, Strategic and Technical Marketing, Samsung Semiconductor.

NOR devices limit the handsets ability to accommodate multimedia mobile applications such as still photography, digital video, games, and Internet access and storage.

Over the next several months, Samsung and PalmSource will look to incorporate Samsung's XSR Flash software into Palm OS Cobalt and future versions of the Palm operating system, enabling Palm Powered phones to support the widest range of Samsung Flash devices ranging in density from 512Mb - 8Gb for NAND and 256Mb - 4Gb for Samsung OneNAND™. The combination of Samsung's XSR Flash software, a 90nanometer OneNAND device and Palm OS would minimize the time it takes to power-on a wireless device, while enabling sub 0.5 shot-to-shot delay with camera resolutions up to six megapixels.
