    Unhappy skin fitting

    Hi

have purchased 2x of ur products ,the screen protector and a skin for a 2nd gen nano ive just bought. they arrived today and the skin looks cool ,however im VERY DISAPPOINTED that once positioned and fitted, on the left hand side of the nano where the two ends of the skin meet they r just sticking straight out and not adhering to the curved edge of the nano.

its look really ****. im tempted to rip it off and throw away

I hope the compy or other customers can give me a solution to this

    cheers

The 2nd Gen nano skins overlap at the ends by about 1mm to ensure a good fit. Our tests seem to indicate that the adhesiveness works fine at the edges. What we do is to paste the front first and overlap the back portion after that.

    Re: skin fitting

ive read ur reply and there certainly is no overlap of 1mm.they touch each other spot on and the skin is aligned correctly ovr clk wheel/screen

ive read ur tips on fitment and first thing to mind is how the heck could u possibly align correctly the skin to the ipods screen and clk wheel if ur placing it face down where u cant see them ??? logic would dictate that alignment must happen with screen and clk wheel in full view then u wrap skin round ipod.

ive had no choice in order to keep the edges stuck down is cut a thin strip of cellotape the length of the ipod and stk it ovr edges .it looks freakn naff and im not happy but only alternative open

    Re: skin fitting

You're right, the Skin tips can do with an update and I've done just that. The previous skin tip was created for the iPod Video and iPod nano where the alignment of the skin can be done simply to the sides of the device as those skins come in two piece designs. The new nano 2nd Gen skin comes in a one piece design and works better if the skin is aligned instead of aligning the iPod. I personally prefer aligning the skin instead of the iPod.

I've taken a new Nano 9000 skin, from the same batch as the one that you used, applied it on my nano and have taken a few pictures as per the attachments. I didn't encounter any problems with the ends meeting and they did meet well. Neither did I encounter any problems with the adhesiveness at the ends despite reapplying the skin for something like 10 times (I hate being a perfectionist) just to get the skin aligned perfectly with the screen and top/bottom of the device. The nano 9000 design is a little harder to align as the clickwheel is not cut out (design choice) like the other designs.

You'll notice macro closeup shots in my photos that show that the ends do indeed meet. They were designed to overlap in the source designs but that 1mm of error margin we gave was just enough indeed. I've also taken a couple of other shots in other angles for anyone else who's interested to see how a skin looks like in real life as I've had a few requests for these photos.

Jon, my mistake, I thought you ordered a nano 9000 design. Can you confirm whether your order number was 16635? Once confirmed, I will approve your order for a reship as we will send a complimentary IPNS-BGIANT for you to try again.

The skin does stick well even at the edges as I pasted and removed the skin for more than 10 times just to get it straight for a nice photoshoot. Do clean your iPod nano's surface properly before trying the new skin as oils, liquids and dust may cause problems with the adhesiveness. It was fine even with my dirty fingers though, so I hope that the new skin will work better for you.

    Re: skin fitting

well ive seen ur pics ,and am happy that fitting probs are mine in two areas the just new ipod needs to be thoroughly cleaned of residue/dirt. exactly what would be best ie damp cloth, alcohol impregnated wipe or a dry tissue?

secondly the issue of residue (dirt/oil/sweat etc)coming off peoples fingers which obviously varys. so prob a good suggestion to customers would be to wear one of those disposable medical gloves.

so dont worry about sending another skin.

i would ask if i am to buy other skins for ipod and from time to time change them how would i go about storing the others properly so adhesive still effective.

thank you for ur prompt and helpful replys

    Re: skin fitting

    You're most welcome John.

It will not be good to use solvents of any sort to clean the iPod as these may or may not have certain chemical reactions with the adhesive. Any micro-fiber cleaning cloth, like the ones we give free with our silicon screens, will do the trick perfectly.

Disposable medical gloves will be a little of an overkill. What's more important is that the iPod surface is clean and it should be all right. Of course, a nice clean working surface will also help but doing it in a garden glass, as an extreme silly example, will be a bad idea. In general, the adhesiveness is rarely a problem and when it is, the main culprit is usually oil or sweat.

We had one other customer who had problems with the ends of the nano 2nd Gen skin like you did. For him, the ends did not meet. For anyone who encounters this problem, just pull out the skin again and reapply - align the screen and clickwheel properly, press down, and then pull the back skin a little as you wrap it around the nano's surface as tightly as you can. The ends are supposed to overlap theoretically but practically, they should just touch each other nicely. Be careful not to pull so hard that the skin stretches.

We will not advice taking skins out and keeping them for future reuse because the mileage for this process varies form user to user. The skins can be reapplied multiple times without any problems for the first few times like in my case, but if the skin is left on the iPod for a long period of time, for maybe 3 months or more, the adhesive of the skin grows more attached to the iPod and attempts to pull the skin out without causing stretches on the skin will be difficult. Yes, the skin can be pulled out without damage if the user is extremely careful but we will always simply tell our customers that no, it can't be done because many of them are going to end up with damaged skins in the haste to get the skin off. Either way, the iPod will never be damaged.

The skins are good for people who want beautiful designs on their iPod that they can change once they're tired of it.
