You can try one of the following but if you have at least 256MB of RAM and a decent sized hard disk, I would recommend an upgrade to XP as you'll get a lot more stability and compatibility with most of today's accessories. If not, here are the alternatives:

Anapod -> Anapod Explorer™ iPod Software, iPod Backup, iTunes Alternative, iPod Transfer, iPod Manager, iPod Management, iPod Explorer, iPod Utility, iTunes Replacement, iPod Copy, iPod Freeware, iPod Managing, PC Software, Windows Software, Windows Vista Soft
Win98 driver for iPod -> http://saviomd.googlepages.com/ (not sure if this will work, try at your own risk)
Another one -> iPod USB driver for Win98, 98SE

thanks for the info. i tried the anapod, but so far not working. currently computer has 191 mb ram and is an intel celeron processor. i assume i can upgrade ram, but is processor ok to handle xp? do i just go purchase xp at computer store and put disc in and install? is it that simple?
    thanks again,

191MB of RAM is honestly too little to run XP. XP will probably install properly on your system but it will be too slow to be functional, so it's probably better not to upgrade.

Another alternative that you might want to consider will be to purchase more RAM for your computer. This will be more economical compared to purchasing a brand new computer but you've got to weigh the cost at your end as the cost of XP + RAM may be approaching that of purchasing a new computer system with XP installed. (XP is expensive)

Do try the Win98 drivers again. The Anapod page has a link to another driver at http://www.redchairsoftware.com/files/ipod98driver.exe as well. If your current computer fits your needs and you can get the drivers working, there is no need to spend any money on RAM or XP.

By the way, anapod will still require the win98 drivers to function.
