Thread: Xbox 360 Hd Dvd Elite Matte Black Skin

Hi,

I'm wondering wheter you have any plans of providing a matte or flat black skin for the XBox 360 HD DVD player? I have an XBox 360 Elite unit and your black skins are all glossy which doesn't match the Elites color scheme which is matte black. Also, Microsoft is planning on releasing a matte black HD DVD drive sometime in the future Home Entertainment: Limited Edition Black Xbox 360 HD DVD Drive - Gizmodo
How about some skins that match the Elite more accurately? Perhaps one for the 360 media remote as well (see link).

Hi tridentnyc, thank you for your posting. Our Skins will always be glossy. We've evaluated matt laminates in the past by other manufacturers but these result in dull Skins that look 'cheap'. The laminate we use is shiny like car paint and gives the products a high gloss value which people tend to like better in general.

I understand your request for a matt skin to match the XBox 360 Elite you have but the whole point of using a Skin is to make the device look different. The XBox 360 Skin will cover almost all of the XBox 360 anyway and the matt surface will not be really visible, other than at the top, but that is similar to the normal XBox 360. The controllers will of course have contrasting shiny (for the skin) and matt (for the controller) areas which is actually quite attractive.

There are no plans to skin the media remote at the moment but this is something we can consider if there is sufficient demand for it.

Thanks for the super fast and informative reply! I do agree with your point about skins making gear look different. This is kinda my point with a matte black skin for the current version of the HD DVD drive. While the Elite console is matte black the HD DVD player is still only offerred in white and no one seems to know if and when a matte HD drive will be available for purchase. Plus who wants to spend another $200 just to change the color of their HD case right? Having a matte black skin certainly would make the current white HD DVD drive look different certainly.

I think you might find many eager new Elite owners looking for a matte skin for their HD drives...I've read a lot of interest about this topic online. Perhaps a matte skin could be made that doesn't look cheap...just matte? ;-)

I see your point now. A matte black skin for the HD DVD drive is a good idea!

I have sent an e-mail to the production team to see if this can be done. There will be production minimum order quantities for the new laminate and we've got to see if it's feasible.

I'll post here as soon as I get a response.

I would like to say that it's possible but I'm afraid it's not. All of our Skins are using the more shiny laminate at the moment and it is not cost effectively to be switching the laminates on the machines just for a single device. It looks like the XBox 360 Skins will remain shiny for now.

I'm hoping for that Matte Black skin also. I'm a little surprised that Microsoft would release the Elite with matching black controllers, but not matching skins for the HD DVD player and the other elements, like the QWERTY keyboard attachment.

There are probably a ton of people too lazy to post here who would also like that Matte skin!!!

Thanks for the feedback. We would love to do a matte Skin to create the matching look for the hd dvd player but until there is enough demand for a decent quantity, we will not be able to do it as it is simply not cost effective in small quantities.

Based on feedback and projections, there may be a demand for maybe 100 pieces of such a product but we need to make maybe 1000 pieces before the project becomes viable.

Oh this would be a brillaint idea, i know a few folk as well that would like this. I also have an elite but have the white hd player looks out of place!!

Ive just bought an elite and i would like to see the reel thing rather than some stickyback plastic equivelant.Although I have to agree matt vinyl looks awfull.But if you reely want a skin make it yourself , its honestly not that hard.With just a roll of stickyback i made a skin for my old 360 and aslong as you get it right you have to go in reely close to find out that it whas fake.
