    iPod radio microphone

Hello, my wife is an aerobics instructor and needs a new radio microphone. She previously used a Trantec but that has now packed up and is beyond repair.

In any event she now wants to move away from cassettes and CDs for her music and wishes to load all her daily play lists onto an iPod. Does anyone happen to know of any portable iPod sound dock systems with a built-in radio microphone receiver so that she can talk over the music?

Try Griffin's Amplif at Griffin Technology: Amplifi - 2.1 Tabletop Sound System . There's a line-in jack where you can plug in a radio microphone receiver but you've got to check with them as to whether both line-in audio and iPod audio can be played/mixed at the same time and whether the respective volumes can be controlled. Line-in jacks are common for most iPod speaker docks but they're usually just for the support of non-iPod audio sources and not for mixing.

I've not heard of any manufacturer producing docks with built-in microphone receivers as it's a feature only used by very specific professions. In fact, the mixing capabilities of the consumer speaker systems out there is questionable and it's best to check with the respective manufacturers as to whether both audio sources can be played at the same time.

Alternatively, a MacBook with a Bluetooth headset and a speaker system might do the trick but the set up is cumbersome compared to .

It's not much help. I'm not even sure what you're looking for exists. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Many thanks for your response; I have submitted the question to Griffin.

Apart from that, I guess someone will some day produce an iPod driven karaoke system which is pretty much what is needed here.

This will indeed do the trick! It's just a pity that the unit does not have an integrated speaker system but combining this with any standard portable speaker should get the job done.

Searches along the lines of "karaoke" seems to be more effective indeed. See Griffin Technology: iKaraoke - Karaoke for your iPod for an alternative to the MusicJam if you want something more portable but do not mind holding the mic.

www.cavsusa.com/ipskaraoke looks good too but I can't figure out where the actual product can be purchased from.
