Thread: iPhone skin design issue

Re: Iphone proximity fix not a fix

You're most welcome. I completely understand your concern about the sensor issue. I'm sure that we're not the only ones sorting out the sensor issues as many other iPhone cases I see on the net seems to cover the sensor, but we're certain that the new fix works as the issue has been extensively tested.

At times, problems such as these crops up for reasons beyond our control but we always try out best to resolve them.

We just got our new top skin replacements from Decal Girl with the notch in the top (as shown in my original thread, sorry I couldn't post it there, it's been locked). The new top skin still appears to block the proximity sensor as the iPhone doesn't blank when held up to the ear.

I don't know how to test to see if the ambient light sensor works with the new top skin.

The replacements that you've received were for the initial proximity sensor fix. http://forum.istyles.com/product-sup....html#post9974 details potential problems that might be encountered with this fix.

The proximity sensor will work within 6-8mm but another enhanced fix that will allow the proximity sensor to reach about 12-16mm was made later on. Unfortunately, we're not able to send further replacements in addition to the replacements already sent for products purchased in the past as the replacement skins will work. The latest fix just works better. If you're still having problems with the skin, try trimming the cutout that was made a little more to the left with a small razor or penknife.

There will be no fix for the ambient light sensor as the issue is not critical. Adding another hole in the skin will make the product look too ugly and it's probably best to just use a clear protector instead such as the ones we have at iStyles > What rocks you? > iPhone > iPhone Protectors - iPod, PSP & DS Fashion Accessories

It's unfortunate that the skins we payed for and the replacements do not work (even within the 6-8mm as I have tested it). In the other locked thread I thought you indicated to me that a fix wouldn't go out until both reported problems were solved.

Look for our chargebacks on these.

Re: Iphone proximity fix not a fix

I understand your frustration but I do not appreciate the threats despite all that we have done to help resolve the issues due to the proximity sensor.

I said that the replacement skin "should" contain the fix in my other posting but after evaluating the issue further, it was a design decision by the team not to add another cutout just for the ambient light sensor. We feel that the sensor is of low importance, does not affect the operation of the device and adding another hole will adversely affect the aesthetic of the design. If the screen appears too dim after the application of the skin, the settings of the phone can be adjusted and the screen will stay in the new brightness setting.

If you visualize another chunk taken off the top corner of the skin, you'll understand that it's probably better to leave the cutting as it is as long as the proximity sensor works. We have verified that the proximity sensor works with the first fix and so have other customers. The new fix simply works a little better but we will not send out anymore replacements as the old one already works.

We have two iSkins and two iPhones. The 'fixed' skins still block both the proximity and light sensors.

Please help me to understand how the new fix 'works a little better' when the behavior is exactly the same as the original?

Re: Iphone proximity fix not a fix

    There were two fixes done.

Fix 1) Cutout for the proximity sensor as described in http://forum.istyles.com/product-sup....html#post9809

This fix works but is not perfect as detailed at http://forum.istyles.com/product-sup....html#post9974

This is the fix in the complimentary replacement skin that you received.

Fix 2: Fixed at http://forum.istyles.com/product-sup....html#post9982 after the report by djpadz. This is the fix that "works a little better".

Either way, I was told that you initiated a dispute for your transaction and your issue will thus not be supported here anymore as it was escalated to the dispute resolution. It appears however that the case was closed by the resolution team in our flavor after they've evaluated the circumstances of the case.

Please understand that we try to resolve all issues amicably but the filing of a dispute against us is almost tantamount to a declaration of war and thus goes against all definitions of the word "amicable". If you've noticed, we ship a lot of free stuff (a little too many at times) due to issues and also out of goodwill as we try to keep our customers happy, but as our lawyer wrote in the dispute settlement, a line has to be drawn somewhere and the line happens to be drawn here. We had half a mind to reship the skins to you but your dispute filing prevented us from doing so. Goodwill works both ways.

What I can suggest for your situation is to trim a little to the left of the cutout (above the speaker) at the top of your replacement skin with either a penknife or a scissors. If you take off 1mm of skin, the sensor might work better for you. Try repositioning your skin in the centre as well if it was positioned a little too far right as this could have affected the sensor.
