Thank you for the review. We're sorry to hear about the import duties levied at the German customs for your Amazon Kindle Skin.
Our products are made in the USA and ship freshly made directly from the production facility - this is how we can offer such a large collection of designs with support for so many devices. We do not believe that there's anything similar or at the same quality level in the EU.
Import customs charge is effectively "VAT" and is already factored into the pricing of any other product that you purchase within Germany. Products that are sold on our web store do not include this charge - we only bill for the cost of the product and the shipping cost. VAT is for the "consumption of goods and services within a country" and is levied by the customs office of some (but not all) countries when the package is imported. It looks like they tagged on some administrative charge or there's a minimum customs charge amount per package in Germany as they billed you 9 euros for an item that cost only 13.50 euros. We suspect that if you have multiple Kindle Skins in the same package, it may still cost the same 9 euros at the customs.
We bill shipping at its cost price and our shipping quote is subsidised for multi-product orders. For example, it cost about 14.50 euros to ship one Kindle Skin to an international destination. You'll still pay only 14.50 euros to ship 10 Kindle Skins to the same destination (even though it'll cost us more to ship). Given the costly international postal charges, it'll be more worth it to ship multiple items in the same order rather than a single one. If you only need one item, one way to save will be to make a consolidated purchase with friends/family and share out the ship cost.
It may be possible for the import charge to be much less if paid for online. For example in France, if the import charge is paid online before the package arrives, the total cost is about half (~6 euros) of what the postman charges (~12+ euros) if he collects payment at the time of delivery instead.

There is indeed sometimes a little smell because our products are freshly made and go straight into the envelope after production. This is usually not noticeable because it takes at least a few days for delivery for most people, but as your Skin was literally made just three days ago, it's a little fresher than the others. As you've experienced, this smell goes away on its own fairly quickly.

The issue I have is that the skin does not cover the entirety of the device. The impetus for purchasing the skin was primarily to cover the feel of the decaying rubber that becomes tacky over time.
It was only after I applied it that I returned to the product image and noticed the nearly half inch gap around the edge of the back that has gone uncovered. Now I must choose between the tedium of finding another material to cover the gap or not using the product.
So make sure you check the details of the image since dimensions aren't listed anywhere on the product page.iStyles responded:

The back Skin piece of this Elegy Barnes & Noble NOOK Simple Touch Skin set does not indeed cover all the way to the edge at the back of the e-reader as shown on the product images.
The back of this e-reader is not flat as it tapers near the edges; if the Skin was extended further, it will bend well near the edge as the Skin can wrap around a single axis, but as the material cannot wrap around 2 axis at the same time, excess material will bulk up at the corners where the surface is rounded. It's like trying to wrap a ball with paper. This back Skin was thus designed to cover the flat surface on the back of the e-reader without going too near the edges so as to avoid any issues.
The back Skin is to be applied such that it's centred on the back of the e-reader, leaving an equal "gap" all around from all four edges.
Unlike cases that are bulky and heavy, Skins are perfect for e-readers such as these because they protect the surfaces covered from scratches and do not weigh down the device. If you need comprehensive protection while the device is in use, a case is the only option as that wraps all around the device, but such cases may negatively affect your reading experience. If you get a transparent or translucent case, the design of the Skin will be visible through it.
Alternatively, we'll recommend keeping the Skin as it is for styling and scratch protection, and when you need to transport the e-reader, place it in a padded bag or sleeve. Matching tablet sleeves are available.

Pros:
1) Matte finish.
2) Very flexible and stretchable! Reapply even if you need to peel it off. Use hair dryer to squish excess length in between. Heat works charms!
3) Contours the curves perfectly.
4) Bubbles are easily managed. Make sure to WAIT a few hours until the skin applies more firmly - new bubbles with come up, just "massage" them down flat.
5) If punctured, holes let the air out (for embossed "Amazon" logo), and then the holes become invisible.
Cons:
1) Flat surface (compared to "dbrand" carbon finish)
2) Out of box, smells really chemical. Make sure to let it go before putting into the case.
3) The back is not covered fully. I guess that's the skin not to peel off easily.

These Skins are freshly made and yours was made just 4 days ago. There can be a slight smell if the Skin was too "fresh" (it got to you too quickly! :) ). The smell goes away fairly quickly after it leaves the envelope. There is a slight gap with the surface edge on the back Skin so that the corners and Skin edges stay on more securely.

iStyles/5I would have given this product 5 STARS if the skin had an installation clear layer on top of the skin itself to assist with lining up the skin to the device (like what is found with other brands). This would have made the installation easier and more predictable; the top clear layer would adhere to the front of the skin while the bottom of the skin (sticky part) would be exposed until contact is made to the surface of the device. The clear layer would not be peeled away until the skin is lined up properly with the device, including the holes for the front facing camera and lower button. The quality of the skin is good; not as stiff as other brands, but it feels like a one time use, like it's soft enough to peel away but it does stretch a little and might not be reusable (like other brands).L. Thank you for the suggestion. We've looked as such "installation clear layers" before but they do not make Skin installation easier - the user holds the clear layer to adjust the alignment but this has no added benefit compared to holding the Skin directly and aligning. Such installation layers are only useful for screen protectors so as to avoid touching the underside (causes visible fingerprints) but when applying a Skin, it's more precise to hold the Skin directly.
Our Skins come with a special weaved adhesive that allows for easy application and goo-free removal. Just position and stick. If you want to adjust the alignment, simply peel the piece off gently and realign. When you're happy with the alignment, press down hard all around and the adhesive will bond. If applied properly on a clean surface, the Skin usually outlasts the lifespan of the device.
The cast vinyl used for the Skin is thin, can conform better to the shape of the device surface, and less prone to heat and shrinkage over time, unlike the stiffer, thicker and cheaper calendar vinyl used elsewhere, but it can indeed stretch if pulled hard. Some customers claim to be able to reuse their Skins but we advice removing the Skin only when you do not want it anymore.

There can indeed be a slight smell from the Skin when it's first removed from the envelope because these are freshly made at the production facility and packed straight after production. The smell, if any, goes away fairly quickly (within hours). It's not possible that the Skin is still off-gassing a year after. I guess that vinyl may have a smell up close if you are sensitive to it, but I just sniffed a couple of old Skins and could not detect anything.
Thank you for the suggestion regarding the tablet front Skin but we've not found any tool that will make the application of the front tablet frame Skin easier than it currently is. Applying the Skin is just a matter of aligning and pasting. Start by aligning the important elements such as the the camera/sensor holes and buttons first, then align the rest. Our Skins come with a special adhesive that allows for repositioning during the application process. If you are not happy with the alignment, just gently peel off and realign. Press down all around on the Skin only after you're happy with the alignment.

Application? A breeze. I do have to say - TAKE YOUR TIME. Study the hell out of the pieces & your device. The skins are EXTREMELY sticky - beware. Take it easy & breathe! (Because I forget to ????)
Removal? EASY. I used a hairdryer on the lowest heat setting & the adhesive lifted ridiculously beautifully. My device looked as if I had just taken it out of the box. Untouched.

We're sorry to hear that the Amazon Kindle Skin was not to your expectation. There are two types of vinyls that these Skins can be made from:
1) Conformed vinyl - this vinyl can be made into the "wrap" that you've described where the coverage can be extended to cover rounded surfaces at corners as it sticks so strongly. Such vinyl is used to make car decals where strong adhesion is necessary but when used to make a device "wrap", Skin application will be complicated as it requires a heat source to bend and stick, and the aggressive adhesive can damage the device surface when the Skin is peeled off, or at the least, leave a fair amount of adhesive residue on the device.
2) Non-conformed vinyl - this is the vinyl we use for our Skins as it has a balanced adhesive that allows for easy application (can be repositioning multiple times during application), will stick well (outlasting the lifespan of the device), and more importantly, will not damage the device surface when the Skin is removed. You do not need a heat gun for the Skin application either but the disadvantage is that this material only bends around a single axle in 3D and the Skin cannot be extended to cover rounded surfaces, such as those at the corners on the back of the Amazon Kindle.

The large tablet Sleeve size that you have has an inner size of 8.75"(width) x 10.75"(height) - there is indeed a little more space inside with an iPad but the tablet fits, is protected in the Sleeve and the Sleeve design matches your iPad Air 2 Skin. If the Skin was too large, it is possible that you might have accidentally stretched the Skin during the application process. Can you try pasting this front Skin back onto the backing card? If the Skin is bigger than the hole that it was peeled off from, it verifies that the Skin was stretched. If the Skin was stretched, we can make another one for you to give it another go at no charge and you just have to cover the shipping cost to get the new piece to you. We're sorry to hear that you stretched the Skin. The Skins are sturdy and will last for years if applied properly but they can stretch if pulled hard and they're especially vulnerable at the thinner stripes such as those around the screen frame.
One way to prevent stretching is simply not to press the Skin down until you are happy with the alignment (this way, it's easier to peel off), and when peeling off, take extra care and do so slowly.

1. The two Skins I had ordered for my Sony Reader and 3DS XL, while very pretty, were not as good as shown on the website. Their colors are much darker, with a lower image quality/resolution.
2. They are also very, very difficult to apply and they can be scrapped very easily. I scrapped mine, so I asked for a replacement and I got them again.
3. Those Skins leave a strong, old plastic-like odor on the device they are put on as soon as you remove them. I had to leave my Sony device at ’free air’ for one full day to remove the odor. Not very pleasant.
4. If you are carrying your device in a hard case for protection, like the book-style case for the Sony Reader, the skins will peel and get scrapped will the constant removal/put back the device in.
In the end, I did not keep my replacement Skins. The one for my Sony Reader was peel off my device in less than a day (explained in #4), and the other, for my 3DS XL, were too difficult to put on without scrapping it again. That’s why I’m leaving only 2-stars for iStyles and furthermore I do not recommend it. Beside, you cannot get refunded, so I lost some $$$ in all of this.iStyles responded:

The Skins have a special weaved adhesive that allow for easy repositioning and bubble free application. However, the actual application mileage varies from person to person and it can indeed take a little more effort for some devices depending on the layout. The final result will be well worth the effort. It is important that the device is well cleaned prior to application. If applied properly and subject to normal wear and tear, a Skin will last for years.
It is indeed possible that the Skins had a "freshly baked" smell as the products were made on demand, they were packed and shipped immediately after production, and you received yours just a week after they were made. We've not had complaints of "odor" from other customers but this "smell" will go away rather quickly as you've experienced.
We are just as disappointed as you are that it did not work out. Thank you for stopping by anyway.

While many international deliveries happen within 1+ week, especially so for USA to Canada shipments, it can take longer depending on how the postal services handle the mail.

Even mor unhappy now that I have begun the return process. Found the person handeling my retun questions rude and unhelpful. Furthermore, their reply to my post does not adddress any of my inital comments other than to say I was wrong. I did find it hard to put on and am vastly unimpressed. The Skins are easy apply as there is technology within to allow for easy application (thanks to the special weaved adhesive): bubbles can be simply smoothed out with a finger, the Skin can be repositioned multiple times during the application process and it can be removed without leaving any goo when you are finally done with it.
A steady hand will still be necessary if you want to align the Skin perfectly with your device but you can reposition the Skin multiple times (carefully) until you get there. More Skin application tips are available at http://istyl.es/SkinApplication
We take pride in our customer service, are concerned about what you described as 'rude and unhelpful' and studied the correspondence you had with our rep to find out what went wrong.
You said that the Skin was too large for your "Galaxy Tab" and he helped to determine the model you have. He explained that there are different Galaxy Tabs in the market, the 'Samsung GALAXY Tab 10.1 Skin' you ordered will not fit your Galaxy Tab 7.0" SCH-1800 and we do not have Skins for your Galaxy Tab model. We are sorry if you found this to be rude but the fact is that you did order the wrong Skin and the way it was put across was as gently as it could be.
You wanted to "exchange" your Skin for one with the "proper size" and this is not something that can be done as we do not have Skins for your specific Galaxy Tab SCH-1800. We wish we could be more helpful but the only course of action will be to return the product for a refund - the RMA and return instructions were sent to you via email.

Thank you to customer service for the explanation. I looked into it and it appears to be true that things tend to disappear around here. I have increased my rating due to this being an issue outside their controliStyles responded:
We're sorry you feel this way but what happened was the combination of your destination in South Africa and the large Skin package (Galaxy Tab Skin).
We can ship worldwide to practically any country for as little as $3 but the larger Skins become a problem in the South African postal service for some reason (they tend to 'disappear') and that is why we can only ship those via UPS. The UPS cost to your specific city in South Africa is indeed absolutely crazy (they charge, not us) but we will not be able to ship via standard mail to South Africa destinations until we can be confident that they will arrive - there are no problems with the shipment of these large packages to other countries via standard mail.
We hope that you will consider the smaller mobile phone Skins because we can ship those to your destination in South Africa cheaply.
One last option that you might want to consider exploring is to look for a forwarding agent in the USA that can forward such packages to you in South Africa cheaply (and securely). We can ship to any US destination for as little as $2 and if you can find such a forwarder, you may be able to get your Galaxy Tab Skin after all.

Just got my skin.
it nice
but it have few cons
1. it too rubbery. When you try to detach it it can get stretched. I recommend you to use more steady materials
2. Color patter is ok, but can be bit less pink

The Skins are made from high quality cast vinyl and are generally rather sturdy, but they can get stretched (especially so at the thinner stripes) if they are pulled with excessive force. Standard calendared vinyl (cheaper) will be a little more sturdy but standard vinyl is much thicker (not aesthetically pleasing, will cause slight bulk), does not conform well to curved surfaces, shrinks over time, is more prone to displacement at the edges and is less resistant to heat. More information is available here.
The cast vinyl used for our Skins results in a much better product and the laminate that protects the artwork strengthens the overall material but care must still be taken during the application process. We will be sending you a replacement for you to give it another try. We hope that the new set works better for you!

Being so much darker, you lose some of the details, and a lot of the leaves on the edges are barely visible.
The Greenman just doesn't look as lively when he's 4 shades darker than he should be....
Had I know it would be this dark, I wouldn't have gone for this design...
