iStyles/5I'm happy with the design but the seams and overlaps aren't holding down as I hoped they would. I am a vinyl tech at a sign company and cleaned everything properly but there are edges that aren't holding down. I will see how it holds up!M. Gibson , United States, 9 March 2022iStyles responded:
Thank you for the review. We're glad to hear that you like the design but sorry to hear that some edges are coming off.
There is not supposed to be any "overlap". The Skin pieces are such that they only stick on the device surface and are not meant to overlap. Overlapping edges will come off.
If you have overlapping edges, try gently peeling off the affected pieces and reapplying them such that the edges do not overlap. Not only are they not supposed to overlap, the pieces are supposed to be centered on the surfaces that they go onto, leaving an equal gap all around from the edge. If a Skin piece is positioned such that its edge is flush against the edge of the surface, this Skin edge will be more prone to lifting from wear and tear as it get caught up more easily.
We use a premium cast vinyl material that comes with a special weaved adhesive that allows for easy application and damage free removal. Unlike the thicker traditional vinyl used for other purposes such as car wraps, our vinyl is thinner and has less aggressive adhesive.
Thinner vinyls are more costly but they're less prone to shrinkage and can conform better to non-flat surfaces. They're also lighter, which is great for drones. The balanced adhesive allows for the vinyl to be subsequently removed with no damage to the device surface; it is just as important that the vinyl can be removed as it is that they say down. If a more aggressive adhesive like those in traditional vinyl was used, the vinyl will stick more strongly but may damage the device surface when peeled off.
If applied properly, these Skins usually outlast the lifespan of the device. Try repositioning the pieces with edges that are coming off such that the Skin edges do not overlap and are not flush against the surface edge. They should stay on better after.
